Protecting the Brotherhood: Email Phishing Guide

Cyber threats and phishing scams are improving, often impersonating real individuals to solicit funds or sensitive information. The purpose of this guide is to equip you with the tools to confidently identify fraudulent emails, verify official ANCA communications, and properly report attacks. By following these protocols, you actively help train our enterprise security filters and safeguard the digital infrastructure against future attacks.

The Golden Rule

Before replying or clicking any links in an email claiming to be from ANCA leadership or a chapter brother, you must verify the sender’s exact email address.

If an email originates from a generic Gmail, Yahoo, or unidentifiable address, it is highly likely to be a phishing attempt.

Official Directory Format:
firstname.lastname@ncalphas.org

Safe Sender Checker

If you are unsure whether an email is officially from the chapter, copy the sender’s email address and paste it below for automated verification.

Anatomy of a Recent Phishing Attack

Below is an exact replica of a recent phishing attempt targeting our brothers. Notice the discrepancy: the attacker spoofed a real brother’s name in the “From” field, but the actual originating email address was fraudulent.

Subject: Phi Lambda

From: Luico Holland <fguftjfj@gmail.com> Critical Flag: Legitimate name, but a randomized, non-ANCA email address.

Do you have time for a phone or to exchange emails/texts this afternoon between 1 PM and 4 PM?
